We Share One Life, We Are One Life

Seasoned... interesting. George Fox, founder of the Quakers, wrote to fellow Quakers of their being seasoned by Grace. I was intrigued by the thought of spirituality as a process of being seasoned. Seasoned - like a friend years ago spoke of the spiritual person being marinated in the Presence. If this is so, spirituality being a process well called being seasoned or marinated, two essentials arise to me: patience, surrender. Being seasoned is just that: being seasoned. I, then, know myself as one who must say "Yes" to the action of Grace upon me. I cannot be a self-made person. Indeed, my own effort can hinder being seasoned by Grace for Grace. I am to live, above all, as a surrendered man, and to be this, I know little of what is happening within me. I surrender even my mistaken right to know. I am not to aspire to be what I want to be, but to have my wanting to be anything yielded to the Light. So, I am positioned by Grace for Grace, oneed with a process mostly hidden to my intellect, hidden to the seeing of others, except, thankfully, by the fruit such seasoning produces in and, so, through me. With this, I am content, but, again, by Grace and for Grace. And for this I am summoned to Silence, to a Love hidden and quiet, wherein is the union of two intimacies, the prior of Life Itself and that of Life manifested within me and through me in Love. And is not this Grace, Love to me? Yes, I say, Yes to this Yes of Grace, so all my life becomes, moment to moment, one becoming of response. How this happens, I know not. That it happens, mostly I remain unaware - for the naturalness of Love negates a self-consciousness of this spontaneous Presence, that is Presence happening, Life doing. How could I want for more?
